The Papers of Tony Veitch by William McIlvanney wasthe second Detective Inspector Jack Laidlaw novel, awarded the Crime Writers’ Association Silver Dagger for Best Crime Novel, (as was its predecessor Laidlaw). McIlvanney is widely credited as the originator of Tartan Noir, the tradition of gritty Scottish crime fiction.
Signed and inscribed twice by the author at the front endpaper: originally inscribed “With Best Wishes, Willie McIlvanney”, and at a later signing in 2013 he added “(and again in 2013)” with a second signature below, an unusual and characterful double association.
