A stunning woodcut by Tuulikki Pietilä (1917-2009), one of Finland's most influential graphic artists of the 20th Century.
Hand-signed/dated in pencil in 1960 by the artist (lower right). Numbered by the artist 1/25 lower left.
Framed and under glass, the frame measures 18.5 x 15.5 inches approx Image measures 8 x 7 inches approx. Newly re-framed, mounted and backed with acid-free materials, and fitted with museum-quality glass. The print is in Fine condition.
The image is of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, a country frequently visited by the artist and her partner, fellow artist and creator of the Moomins, Tove Jansson. Tuulikki was the inspiration for the character Too-Ticky in the Moomins series. She also designed the Arabia ceramic Moomins figures first created in the 1950's and which continue to be made until the present day.
