Sir John Gielgud - Autograph Signature and Quotation, 1986

Sir John Gielgud (1904–2000) was one of the greatest British actors of the twentieth century, celebrated for his Shakespearean roles and his extraordinarily musical speaking voice. A distinguished director as well as performer, he was awarded an Academy Award for Arthur (1981). His choice of Walter de la Mare as a quotation piece is characteristic of his literary sensibility.

A slip of paper (approximately 5" x 3"), signed and dated 1986, bearing a hand-written quotation from Walter de la Mare's poem Fare Well (1918): "Look thy last on all things every hour" (sic — the original reads "Look thy last on all things lovely / Every hour").
