George Abbott (1887–1995) co-authored the book for On Your Toes (originally 1936) and directed this acclaimed 1984 West End revival. Natalia Makarova, the celebrated Russian prima ballerina, won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical for this performance — having already won a Tony Award for the Broadway equivalent.
