A superb example of an original Finnish cinema-lobby poster for Helvetilliset, better known by its English-language title Carnival of Souls.
Herk Harvey's cult-classic premiered in Finland 02.11.1962 at the one theatre only in Helsinki and you can bet it disappeared quickly - I am amazed that the extremely conservative Finnish film-certification board approved its distribution at that time.
The poster is a standard Finnish lobby-poster for the era, A2 format, approximately 15.5 x 22.5 inches (40cm x 60cm). Full-bleed, no artist information indicated.
A folded poster originally with resulting crease to the middle but not unduly noticeable due to the rich colouring. At the right edge middle, there is a nick to the paper of approximately 1 cm in length - again this is hardly noticeable due to the black background at that place. There are neither pinholes nor sellotape/clamp marks to the corners, suggesting that it may not have been displayed.
The colouring is strong and vivid and compares very favourably to the rather drab US version of this movie poster. Some minor handling creasing to the edges is visible only from the verso - this is an excellent condition example, Fine.
Extremely rare, only the second example we have acquired in over 20 years.
We describe all noticeable faults in our movie posters but for best appreciation of condition please examine the high resolution image which accompanies the listing.
