SALE ITEM!
A limited edition print of an Australian Oz Magazine cover depicting Mona Lisa with bare breasts. The original artwork by Martin Sharp - one of his most iconic covers.
The print dates from 2010/11 and is one of a small number commissioned by Oz Magazine co-founder and Editor, Richard Neville, intended for general sale out of his shop in Sydney. It is likely that very few were actually produced or sold however, as the "shop" was a short-lived enterprise. There are neither dates nor printed publisher info on the print.
On thick paperstock, portrait format, the sheet measures 21.5 inches by 28 inches approx. The print is numbered in pencil lower left and signed in pencil by Martin Sharp lower right. Additionally signed to the middle in pencil by Richard Neville.
Condition: The print is one a few recently re-discovered and has remained rolled since creation. In pristine condition with one minor ding (or handling impression) to left margin at the edge, a smaller one to bottom edge middle. Entirely free from any kind of spotting or finger-marks etc.
Provenance: from the estate of Felix Dennis, Oz co-editor and co-defendant in the obscenity trial. The print was sent to Felix Dennis from Australia by Richard Neville in 2012. A wonderful association piece, therefore, as well as an iconic art-work which would grace anyone's wall.
