Leonardo Sciascia (1921–1989) was one of the most celebrated Italian writers of the twentieth century, renowned for his crime fiction, political essays, and investigations into Sicilian life and the Mafia. Il Mare Colore del Vino (The Wine-Dark Sea) - a collection of short stories - was one of his most admired works.
