A charming and impressive leporello (concertina-style) publication depicting the Army and Imperial Guard of Napoleon III's France. Published by Godard, Paris, 1861.
Comprising 24 hand-coloured and glazed plates depicting soldiers and officers - many mounted on horseback - with occasional descriptive captions below each plate. Small format: approximately 16.5 x 11.5 cm closed, extending to a remarkable 262 cm when fully opened.
1/4 cloth binding. Plates in Very Good, clean condition, entirely free from foxing. Binding Good but shaken and loose, with tears to the cloth along the backstrip edge. Owner name to front pastedown, otherwise clean.
A lovely and scarce item of French military ephemera.
