Illustrated in colour by Finn Campbell-Notman. Pictorial gilt covers. Adapted into the 1993 film starring Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson.

At the half-title, a slip of paper pasted in bears the author's autograph signature and inscription: "Best Wishes & Thanks, Kazuo Ishiguro" — a fuller signature than typically seen at book-signing events; personal inscriptions from Ishiguro are uncommon.
