Published in Stockholm by Koopertiva Förbundets Bokförlag, 1947.
Printed in the Swedish Language.
First thus, the very first of Tolkien's works to be translated.
Translated by Tore Zetterholm and illustrated by Charles Sjöblom. Bound in pictorial boards with a red cloth spine, 269 pages, illustrated with vignettes and full-page drawings.
A controversial publication inasmuch as Tolkien was so displeased with the light-hearted tone of the translation and the lack of consultation from its publisher, that it was supressed, to be replaced by "Bilbo" in 1962.
A pleasing copy, square and remains firmly bound. Minor bumping and rubbing at the corners, there is a minor scrape to the front board and further microscopic scrapes to the board edges. The text-block is fresh, free from owner names etc. A very clean and bright example without the usual print-soiling to the rear board, e.g.
Unquestionably a VG or near Fine copy of this very rare book.
