Dvenadtsataya notsh (Twelfth Night). A Soviet-era lithograph movie poster, 1956
An exquisite, first-screening, Finnish cinema-lobby poster for the Soviet-era Shakespearian movie Dvenadtsataya noch or 12th Night. The film was released in Finland in 1956 and had no subsequent theatrical runs thereafter.
This is a fascinating and stunning poster. Although intended for use in Finland (with titles in Finnish and Swedish as you would expect) I am 99% confident that the poster was made in the USSR and not Finland.
Measures 23.25 inches x 16.25 inches, approx. Although A2 Finnish lobby posters vary slightly in size by printer this one is slightly more outsize than usual. The paper stock is very high quality - almost arches-like - and does not conform to the cheapish paper stock used in Finland at this time. Most Finnish posters of this era were offset prints, this appears to be a lithograph. There is neither printer information nor artist name on the poster. The poster just oozes quality and it is widely recognized that the Soviets heavily promoted their own movie industry and were not afraid to spend in doing so.
Condition: C9.5. Rolled. Not quite Mint - there is a small 1/2 cm nick left edge middle. Faint crease lower right corner. Otherwise in outstanding Near Mint condition and a superb example of cinema advertising as well as an extremely attractive item of wall-art for your home.
