Dodie Smith - Autograph Letter Signed with Autographed Card, 1957

Dodie Smith (1896–1990) was a British novelist and playwright, best known for I Capture the Castle (1948) — widely admired by writers including J.K. Rowling — and The Hundred and One Dalmatians (1956), adapted by Disney as an animated film in 1961 and in live action in 1996.

An autograph letter signed, written on small headed notepaper (approximately 18 x 11.5 cm), dated 29 August 1957 — one year after the publication of The Hundred and One Dalmatians. Responding to what appears to have been a fan letter, Smith mentions her reluctance to write a sequel to I Capture the Castle — a significant piece of content for collectors of her work.

Accompanied by the original envelope addressed to the recipient in Smith's hand, and a plain white card signed and dated by the author, enclosed with the letter as mentioned in the text.
