Seitsemän Veljesä is widely regarded as the greatest Finnish novel and a cornerstone of Finnish national identity. Aleksis Kivi (1834–1872) is the father of Finnish literature; Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865–1931) is Finland’s most celebrated visual artist.
