Printed in the Finnish language.
First thus, a sumptious edition of this famous work considered to be a "national novel" of Finland and regarded by many as the greatest Finnish novel ever written.
Bound in quarter calf, fabric-covered boards with coloured edges. 463 pages including an afterword by the illustrator's grand-son plus index. Handsomely illustrated with reproductions of Akseli Gallen-Kallela's original colour plates and illustrations from the first illustrated edition of 1908 and also some of his other thematic paintings.
Some swelling to the corners and a few small marks and other minor wear to the fabric of the boards but a lovely copy, VG, the contents free from owner names etc and in Fine condition.
The accompanying slipcase shows some minor, light stains and surface-wear.
An impressive edition of this keynote work of modern Finnish literature.
