Josephine Baker (1906–1975) was an American-born French entertainer, singer, dancer, and civil rights activist — one of the most celebrated performers of the twentieth century. She became a French citizen in 1937 and was posthumously inducted into the Panthéon in 2021, the first Black woman so honoured. Her 1970 Scandinavian tour came shortly before her celebrated comeback at the Bobino in Paris.
A programme and menu card for a performance by Josephine Baker at the Lorry night-club, Sundbyberg, Sweden, 1970. Signed "Josephine B." below which she has added her hand-written address in France — a remarkable personal touch from an artist who was clearly acquainted with the recipient.
The card measures approximately 8.25 x 4.75 inches unfolded.
Condition: Very Good (corners very slightly creased).
